“Securebit Technologies” Tech Support Scam | Norton Security Impersonators

This scammer was a very typical tech support scammer, using many tactics we have all seen before (and more!) For this video I used ScammerRevolts’s fake pop-up program again as bait. When the scammer connected the first thing he told me was going to run a “scan” to check for problems, so what does he do? He opens CMD and runs the ‘netstat’ command. He lied and said that there were people trying to connect to my computer from South Asia, the connections that displayed were completely normal and was not ANY hacker trying to connect to my computer. He then to beef up the lie, he opened a script that he had remotely transferred to my system that said I had a ‘Microsoft Alert’ and that my computer was trying to warn me. This was one of the most pathetic things I had ever seen. It was nothing but a simple VB script that used the message box command to display the fake error. He then said that the Alureon Virus was on my system, (again with no real check to prove this.) Next, he opened task manager and said that my drivers had been “Blocked” and that If they all become stopped I won’t be able to use my computer anymore. As we know, this is false, the drivers are normally stopped and they are not “Blocked” they also, don’t all need to be running at the same time in order for the computer to function. He then tells me that my Microsoft Security Essentials has been blocked since Windows 2000, and only works on Windows 98. He also tells me that Malwarebytes can only detect the infections but can’t block them. Both of these are the biggest lies ever, Security Essentials works perfectly fine and was not blocked in Windows 2000. It wasn’t even around then -__-. Malwarebytes can block infections and does not only scan for infections. Next, he goes to Event Viewer and tells me that all the normal logs are infections and tells me he is going to block the infections. This is of course is a lie, the logs were perfectly normal and IS not an infection. After this he goes through the usual scam spiel about how he’s going to “fix” the computer by installing “Anti-Hacking” software and then wanted me to pay $299.99 which was 2 times the price of the ACTUAL one time fix plan. I then ask him what his website was, he took me to the Norton Security page and said that he worked for Symantec or Norton Security. After this I called him out on his BS, I hung up and asked if I should call back from the Norton Toll-Free Number, which of course he gave me another number which lead me to find their real website. After all this I gave them my fake info then confronted them and as I suspected, he hung up like a coward.
